Lauren uses a Japanese air-dry clay that dries extremely light-weight and is porous (accepting of all painting mediums). One package of this clay can make 4 to 5 roses. A 4 ft x 10 ft piece like Sky + Line 3, featured large on the homepage, takes hundreds of packages of clay to sculpt to complete.
Professional watercolor is her primary painting medium - Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton are favorites. She also paints with acrylics and utilizes glosses and metallic alloys. Once pieces are finished, all pieces are then sprayed with archival-grade matte fixative so as not to fade in UV Light or over time.
She use a professional grade high-heat polymer through a professional high-heat glue gun to adhere each rose or petal in its position on the canvas. The polymer is extremely strong and a permanent bond.
Original pieces will vary in weight due to size, but all pieces are mounted on stretched canvases and can be hung like ordinary paintings, either with butterfly brackets and screws in the wall, then hanging directly on the wooden frame, or using hanging brackets and hanging wire. In either case, make sure that the screws, brackets and wire that you are using will be sufficient to hold the weight of the piece, as they are sold with lb. ratings.
In order to have these beautiful and fragile works delivered to you in perfect condition, custom wood crates are built for every work. Sized for the item, each crate is outfitted with special spring-board suspension technology to absorb any shocks during transit. Pieces are removed from the crate with a screwdriver and both a manual and power screwdriver are recommended, though a manual alone will do. A how-to video will be e-mailed to each collector detailing easy step-by-step removal-from-crate instructions. Though these crates can be large, depending on the size of the piece, we advise to keep and store these crates post-purchase, for any future moves.
Shipping times vary depending on size of the piece and the shipping destination.
